Short-Form Video Editor (YouTube Shorts)
I want to make my podcast one of the most impactful shows in the world.
One of my podcast’s key bottlenecks right now is video growth, specifically on YouTube. I believe a strong short-form YouTube Shorts strategy is crucial to boosting my YouTube subscribers, and my goal is to 10x them over the next six months.
Accordingly, I’m looking to hire a short-form video editor to create YouTube Shorts. If you’re successful in the role, there will be plenty more work available, including other kinds of video editing.
My Approach to Hiring
I see two possible approaches to hiring for this role:
- Hire a short-form video editor and then teach them the necessary taste and general knowledge for creating clips that align with my podcast.
- Hire someone smart from my audience, who already has context and taste around the topics I discuss, and then teach them video editing skills after the fact.
My hypothesis is that option two will be more effective, because it's harder to teach taste than video editing.
What Success Looks Like
If you’re successful in the role:
- You’ll produce 2–5 YouTube Shorts per week
- You’ll help me crack the YouTube Shorts algorithm
- Together, we'll massively scale my YouTube channel
Role Details
- Remote position (anywhere in the world)
- Casual role starting on a one-month contract (as an experiment), likely extending to six months if it goes well
- Paid at a competitive rate
Ideal Candidate
- Someone with taste and general knowledge about the topics I discuss on the podcast (context is crucial for clip selection and knowing what will tap into the zeitgeist)
- Short-form video editing experience is a bonus (e.g. using Descript), but not strictly required
How to Apply
- Email a link to a sample YouTube Short you’ve created from one of my episodes to joe@jnwpod.com
